DETROIT (WJBK) -
It was a frightening day on the job for three Detroit firefighters hurt in the line of duty. They were all injured battling a suspicious blaze on the city's west side.
Firefighters rush into burning buildings while the average person is rushing out, and what happened Wednesday proves just how dangerous their job can be.
"It's scary when you see your home, even if it's a part of it, it's scary," said Yalanda Beasley.
SkyFox was over the scene as firefighters tried to contain the blaze as it tore through an apartment building. Beasley and her family were the only tenants living there.
"I went to my neighbor's and maybe 15 minutes later, I got a phone call saying that my apartment is on fire."
Detroit firefighters rushed in to tackle the blaze and as they were finishing the job a stairwell collapsed. Three firefighters fell. One suffered burns to his legs.
To make matters worse, this fire may have been set intentionally. Arson investigators discovered empty jugs that smelled like gas and the building's back door was open. The owner was in the midst of renovating the building, and now his plans have gone up in smoke.
Beasley and her family were not injured, but she can't help but feel for the firefighters who were.
"I appreciate their hard work because they came out and they looked so tired."
All three firefighters were taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, sources tell us that they are expected to make a full recovery and this fire is still under investigation.
