DETROIT (WJBK) -
At Green Dot Stables there are horseshoes embedded in the concrete driveway and a horse on the roof. On this day I was looking for some poutine.
"Poutine is brown gravy over French fries with fresh cheddar curds," said Chef Les Molnar.
The stars of his eclectic menu are affordable gourmet sliders, including a vindaloo brazed lamb neck with fig and raisin chutney.
Molnar studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago, yet he finds himself on Lafayette in Detroit.
"I'm a native Detroiter. I was born in the city," he explained. "We want to bring a different feel. Detroit can use something like this."
This place closed a few years back, then along came restaurentrepenuers Jacques and Christine Driscoll.
"It's kind of been a dream of mine since I was about 15, and finally I got laid off from my job. I was working out in San Diego," said Jacques Driscoll.
They cleaned up the old jockey helmets and kept the ambience.
"We were told that the very first owner in 1973 was a standard bred horse breeder and he had his own stables, so this was named after his stables," said Christine Driscoll.
Sure the place has a hipstery, foosball table vibe -- unintentional -- yet you might see a couple playing pinochle.
I tried four or five different sliders. One had kimchi and peanut butter. Another one was a little more normal, but equally delicious. It featured a white wine cream sauce, chicken breast and bacon.
The place was packed on a random weekday at lunchtime, most people ordering the mystery meat slider.
"I had a mystery meat and I had the lamb and they were both excellent," said one patron.
"I had the ring bologna slider and also the Coney Island slider. Both really good," another said.
Green Dot Stables is at 2200 W. Lafayette in Detroit.

It can creep up on you without you realizing it. One day you step on the scale and you're obese. That's what happened to a St. Clair Shores woman who never though she would lose the weight.
