Rep. Tim Walz talks Veteran Skills to Jobs act

Posted: Updated:

Veterans often find that even though they have training to perform a variety of occupations out of the military, some companies, states and government departments may not recognize that training and delay their employment. Rep. Tim Walz says that has to change.

The Veteran Skills to Jobs Act helps address the unacceptably high rate of veteran unemployment by directing the head of each federal department and agency to treat relevant military training as sufficient to satisfy training or certification requirements for federal license. That means veterans can get back to work quickly.

Walz is an author and key force behind this legislation. FOX 9 News spoke with Walz after he spent time Air Force One talking about the bill with President Obama.

The Veteran Skills to Jobs Act ensures an applicant for any federal license who received relevant training as a member of the armed forces will be deemed to satisfy the requirements for the license -- unless the training was not substantially equivalent to the license requirements.
