Lynx continue undefeated start with 83-79 win over San Antonio

Posted: Updated:

The Lynx continued their winning ways Sunday night with a 83-79 victory over San Antonio. Those inside Target Center may have had to rub their eyes in the fourth quarter as the Silver Stars pulled to within seven points with 95 seconds to play. Seven points may seem like a huge mountain to climb against the undefeated defending WNBA champs, and it is. The big story to the game was that the Lynx had led by 26 points midway through the third quarter.

"I thought we had some good individual performances," said coach Cheryl Reeve. "And again, we had some good moments, we're just disappointed that it became a game after such a big lead."

The Lynx shot a blistering 68 percent from the field in the firs half as they

Maya Moore and Rebekkah Brunson led the way with 17 points each. Lindsay Whalen scored 15 points, added seven assists and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

The win ups their record to 7-0 on the season, a franchise record. It is the sixth time in WNBA history that a team has won at least seven straight games at the beginning of the season. The Los Angeles Sparks hold the record as they started 9-0 in 2001 and 2003.

The Lynx host Seattle on Wednesday night at 7pm. The Lynx defeated the Storm 84-71 on May 27.
