DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit's Mayor and the top brass from the Detroit Police and Fire Departments were on hand for a ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday for a new state-of-the-art Public Safety headquarters.

When it is completed the 465,000 square foot building at the site of the former MGM temporary casino at Third Avenue and Abbott will be home to Detroit Police, Fire, EMS, Homeland Security and possibly a new Michigan State Police crime lab.

Fox 2's Amy Andrews reports the new complex is scheduled to open in July 2013.
