Though the economy certainly isn't fully recovered, one local economist says the summer job outlook is better than it's been in years.
There are summer jobs out there -- if you look for one. Though it may not be as easy as it once was for teenagers to pick up some summer shifts to help save up for college, those with determination will likely get hired this year.
No matter how old you are, job seekers will probably need to fill out many applications before one pans out -- but things are looking up, according to Toby Madden, regional economist for the federal reserve.
"My job is to keep the finger on the pulse of the regional economy -- and luckily, it's beating a little faster than the rest of the nation," he said.
Still, Madden says young students looking for summer work will have to keep at it and use their network of friends to help find a foot in the door.
