Twins, Walters hang Sox out to dry in 9-2 win

Posted: Updated:

The Twins opened their three game series with Chicago with an impressive 9-2 win. The win marked the third straight strong start for P.J. Walters who threw his first complete game and his second win of the season.

The Sox jumped out in the first inning when Gordon Beckham homered to left-center field. It was the fourth solo homerun that Walters has given up in his last two starts. The offense continued to be productive as Justin Morneau hit his sixth homerun of the season, driving in three runs.

The Twins scored four runs in the second inning and added another five in the fourth inning when they sent eight batters to the plate.

Walters did the rest, striking out eight White Sox batters in his first shutout of the season.

The Twins and White Sox will play game two of their three game series tomorrow night when Scott Diamond opposes Chris Sale.

Notes:

Walters has allowed six runs this season. Five have come on solo home runs.
