Electronic Waste Recycling Made Easy

It looks like a graveyard for old electronics from computers and hard drives to DVD players, fax machines and more. A Southfield warehouse is the final resting place for so many things, such as an old VCR labeled "no good."

E-waste, as they call it, is the fastest growing type of municipal waste. The Resource, Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County can now accept more items than ever before. They include household appliances, such as blenders and toasters, power tools, hair dryers and even outdated equipment like an old film projector from the sixties.

We're told some of the items RRRASOC recycles contain hazardous materials, such as mercury and leaded glass.

The facility serves eight Oakland County communities from Southfield to South Lyon with two drop-off locations in Southfield and Wixom.

All of this material goes to Illinois where it's broken down and distributed to materials processors across the U.S. and Europe.

The facility also collects glass bottles and other resources that can be reused.

As of October 1st, a company called Vintage Tech is even providing at your door service for electronics depending on where you live.  Click here for more information.
