Not only are the Twins the worst team in the major leagues, this could possibly be the worst team in the history of the franchise.
You shouldn't be.
Not even MacGyver could roll in and piece this team together. There isn't duct tape strong enough.
The Twins have the worst pitching staff in the major leagues. It is armed with four players who would be number four or five starters on any other team. The so called ace has only two starts this season, but is the dim light in an otherwise dark night. The starters are 7-21 with a 6.38 ERA.
"No one is feeling sorry for us," said Ron Gardenhire. "We're not getting a lot of breaks. If you start playing better baseball, the breaks start heading your way."
While is it not certain exactly what breaks the skipper is referring to, it might help if the pitchers stopped throwing the equivalent of batting practice and the hitters could find a way to put the ball in play when it matters. That would be a start.
Joe Mauer once beloved by his home town fans is now playing the role of John Cena of WWE fame. He is suddenly hearing more boos with every ground out. With a no-trade clause and a 23 million dollar price tag per year, Mauer has become the punch line of fans and local media alike. The man once dubbed "The Baby Jesus" for his untouchability has only eight hits in the month of May. The only difference between Mauer and Cena at this point is there is no "Let's go Mauer" chants from one half of the stadium, and "Mauer sucks" from the other half.
"It's a tough game," said Mauer. "You try to stay on an even keel as best you can. Hopefully we get on the road and get on a roll."
Hey Joe, want the boo birds to stop? Try showing some emotion. The fans need some ‘off the rails' from you. We are looking for "I'm mad as hell and not going to take this anymore", not "I'm in a funk". Who knows, it might even help you move a couple more Mauer's Quickswing batting aids. Show us some emotion. Please!
Until then, change your walk up music to Cena's theme song as heard above. It would at least provide some entertainment and yes Joe, the fans would get the reference. Who knows, it may even provide the spark or "break" as Gardy put it that the team is looking for.
