Bob Sirott's One More Thing about finding work

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing about finding work.

It's graduation season, and job application time. But the jobless rate for college grads has risen to 9.4 percent, the highest since the government began keeping records in 1985.

So as a public service to the youth of the community I will now reveal the best way to impress any prospective boss. Here's how to score off the charts in a job interview. The secret was actually revealed by Harvard neuro-scientists yesterday.

As reported in today's wall street journal, researchers measured brain activity as people talked about themselves. Turns out bragging gave people the same sensation of pleasure as food, money, or sex.

Brain imaging tests showed that when people talked about themselves as opposed to others, it resulted in spurts of heightened activity in brain regions associated with the sense of reward and satisfaction.

So how does this translate to the job interview? Think about it. Turn the tables on the interviewer. Ask him or her questions. The more they talk about themselves, the better they'll feel, the more they'll like you, and the more likely you are to get hired.
