SCORCHING HEAT SATURDAY....NOT QUITE AS HOT SUNDAY
SCORCHING HEAT SATURDAY....NOT QUITE AS HOT SUNDAY
ATLANTA, Ga. -

HEAT REMAINS AT UNCOMFORTABLE LEVELS....

After heat indices flirting with 100 degrees in the metro area this afternoon (and as high as 113 degrees in LaGrange!), it will be slow to cool down tonight.  Temperatures will still be in the 80s through 11pm.  And we are setting up for a similar day  Saturday with highs again in the upper 90s and heat index values around 100-103.  With this kind of heat, humidity, and full sun, it's crucial to be safe when spending time outdoors.  If you've got weekend plans that take you outside, stay hydrated and take breaks.

"BACK DOOR" COLD FRONT PROVIDES LATE-WEEKEND RELIEF...

It does look like some relief is on the way by the second half of the weekend.  A front will sink into the region from the northeast, bringing a better chance for showers/storms on Sunday and a breezy east wind to limit high temperatures to around 90.

IN THE TROPICS..

Just a note -- we are also still watching the system in the Atlantic, Invest 96L, which is still on track to strengthen and possible become a Tropical Depression this weekend.  Unfortunately, there is still an incredible amount of uncertainty in the path of this system.  Models vary from bringing the system to south Florida to bringing it close to Bermuda.  Most models keep it offshore of the east coast of the US, with it steering in between the east coast and Bermuda.  We'll need to keep a close eye on it, and you can do the same at www.myfoxhurricane.com.
