BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (KMSP) -

Teresa Moenga was officially sworn in as Fire Chief for the day by Brooklyn Park Mayor Jeffrey Lunde. The fifth grader at Oxbow Creek Elementary in Champlin impressed judges with her essay submitted as part of the Fire Chief for a Day Essay Contest.

Her first duties following her swearing in include riding along with Fire Chief Ken Prillaman and respond to actual 9-1-1 calls.

Teresa wrote about her strong will to "grow up and help people in society." She will receive a $100 savings bond courtesy of the Brooklyn Park Lion's Club.
