Community activists have won a battle with Chicago Public Schools over the building of a new library at Whittier Elementary School.
CPS Chief Jean-Claude Brizard sent the activists a letter yesterday telling them that the library won't be built as planned, according to the Chicago Tribune.
It was supposed to go inside the school on the second floor -- in a room that's being used as a meeting area where students wait for their tutors -- something the activists opposed because they said students would have been displaced by the construction.
Instead, they want it to go into the field house.
Last fall, parents held a sit-in at the field house for several weeks protesting its demolition.
