Registered dietitian Jennifer Ventrelle said to escalate your energy level, start your day with a breakfast that's loaded with good carbs and protein. Then, you should eat every four hours.

Her top five energy boosters:

  • Nuts (almonds and walnuts, raw and unsalted) - great source of protein, potassium and magnesium
  • Blueberries - High in fiber, packed with quality carbohydrates
  • Salmon - Loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids
  • Kale - Rich in Vitamin K
  • Edamame (fresh or frozen) - good source of protein, high-quality carbohydrates and iron

Ventrelle's Avoid Em List:

  • Energy drinks
  • Coffee
