If you've got a taste for top notch thin crust pizza and if like all things retro, especially with a Christmas atmosphere, we've got the place for you: Marie's Pizza and Liquors in Albany Park on the Northwest side.
It's like going home.
Marie's Pizza and Liquors, a neighborhood joint where the Christmas decor is almost as famous as the pizza!
They've got it all: Santa's train's on the wall, ornaments above and elves in every nook and cranny.
Nadine Karavidas has worked at Marie's in one capacity or another since the age of 11. Her grandfather opened the place in 1940. Her Dad took over eight years later.
"People walk in and they are just in awe of it. It's really a piece of magic,” Karavidas said.
The other great thing about Marie's is if you're enjoying your pizza and you can really go for a bottle of wine, you walk through those doors and you're in the liquor part of Marie's Pizza and Liquors.
You have your choice of thousands of bottles of wine at retail prices. And if you want to grab a six pack to go- no problem!
It's a little taste of old-time Chicago, where nothing much ever changes, especially when it comes to the main attraction.
"You can't beat this place for a thin crust pizza,” customer Ben Jensen said. “Number one in city as far as I'm concerned."
"It's got the feel of a neighborhood place,” Karavidas said. “You come you check in with your neighbor, you check in with the staff. It's like the little Mayberry R.F.D here."
FOX Chicago's Bob Sirott was a frequent customer years ago, and recently had a slice with old friends.
