CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
It's now official. You'll have to pay for seats and watch concerts performed during the Taste of Chicago.
City Council approved a plan Wednesday to charge $25 for Petrillo Band Shell concert seats, which used to be free.
The Taste loses money year to year.
The city said the seat charge will bring in $375,000 and help chip away at $2.7 million in losses at the Taste over the past three years.
But the entertainment Taste guests will have to pay for might turn out to be well worth the $25 ticket price. Artists slated to perform include Chicago native Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan and Death Cab for Cutie.
There will be 3,000 seats available per night.
Lawn seating will still be free, but you can now pay $40 for a sit down meal with a chef of the day.
Almost all the alderman approved the ticket charge - while one did not - saying it may be time to stop the Taste of Chicago altogether.
It has gone from 10 days to 5 and will no longer be held around the July 4 holiday – it will be later in the month.
