Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, occurs has been long associated with war veterans. The disorder was called “Shell Shock” in World War because veterans were believed to be suffering from the direct physical effects of shell blasts. In 1980, the symptoms were recognized as an anxiety disorder by the American Psychiatric Association and termed PTSD in 1980.
