Juror Punished for Facebook Posting About Verdict

(NewsCore) - A juror who revealed on Facebook she would be voting for a guilty verdict during a Michigan trial was Thursday ordered to write a five-page essay on the constitutional right to a fair trial, the Detroit News reported.
Hadley Jons, 20, was removed from the trial after it was found that, on a day off from court, she had written on Facebook that it was "gonna be fun to tell the defendant they're GUILTY."
The son of the defense attorney found the post while he was researching the jurors.
Jons, a premed student at Macomb Community College, was sitting on the jury during a criminal case against Leann Etchison, who was charged with resisting arrest.
Jons was removed from the jury and Thursday was fined $250 by Judge Diane Druzinski, who also ordered her to write the essay.
Druzinski said Jons had failed to be fair and impartial.
The fine is to be paid by October 1 -- the same day the essay is due.
Etchison was eventually found guilty.
