Crews along the Red River prepare for spring floods as sand bagging begins Monday and the North Dakota National Guard arrives Tuesday.
The following was released from the city of Fargo Monday morning:
City Crews will began delivering sandbags to lower elevation neighborhoods at 9 a.m. today, Monday. Sandbag delivery will continue to designated areas 24 hours a day through Wednesday. Delivery convoys will be traveling on 25th St. so drivers are asked to use alternate routes. This will help convoys make deliveries quickly and efficiently. Convoys will be escorted by Fargo Police. Today, crews will deliver sandbags to the following neighborhoods:
• Belmont Park
• Harwood Groves
• River Drive (Burritt, Kennedy and Lemke Additions)
• River Vili
• Rose Creek
The delivery schedule is based on the flood risk level of the neighborhood. The full delivery schedule is attached to this e-mail for your reference. Day one refers to Monday, day 2 Tuesday and day 3 Wednesday. This information is also available online on the Flood Information Web site: www.cityoffargo.com/flood
Residents can call the flood information hotline at 701-476-4199 for more information.
Officials in Scott County monitored an ice jam on Sand Creek Sunday. It was located about 1.5 miles south of the junction of 173rd street and the west side of Highway 169 in Jordan.
The NWS says other locations that may experience flooding include rural areas of sand Creek township near highway 169 (north of Jordan). And possibly areas south of the city of Carver.
OTHER FLOODING CONCERNS
South Fork Crow River south of Mayer. The NWS predicts the area will reached flood stage Saturday and will continue to rise to near 15 feet by Wednesday afternoon. Flood stage is 11 feet.
For the South Fork Crow River at Delano, the NWS predicts the area could reach flood stage (16.5 feet) by Monday night. By Friday, the flooding could go as high as 19 feet impacting sanitary sewers, which could back up into homes.
The Crow River at Rockford sees a forecast of water rising above flood stage (10 feet) by Tuesday afternoon and continuing to 13.8 feet by Friday.
BEMIDJI
Officials in Bemidji and Beltrami County are urging residents to prepare as rain and melting snow threatens to give way to overland flooding. Bemidji is offering a sandbagging class Saturday and selling unfilled sandbags all next week.
The bags are going for 25 cents apiece, which helps cover the cost of delivering sand. Residents can get the sand delivered to their homes.
The threat of flooding is rising statewide as warm temperatures and rainfall persist.
Last year's rapid thaw led to overland flooding that damaged six homes in Bemidji.
CLAY COUNTY
People in the Fargo-Moorhead area are on flood watch. There are several spots where rural roads are under water, washed away or caving in.
Drivers across the state are urged to take it slow and be careful.
