It's the dawn of a new day.  In two senses of the phrase.

Kevin McHale reportedly has been fired and the news broke on the social networking site Twitter.  When Kevin McHale joined the Timberwolves in 1994, most people didn't know what e-mail was... now we learn his fate in 140 characters or less.

A tweet from Timberwolves Forward Kevin Love late Tuesday night read, "Today is a sad day...Kevin McHale will NOT be back as head coach next season."

FOX 9 Sports confirmed Love spoke to McHale himself Tuesday night just before posting the message on Twitter.

The tweet drew immidiate reaction from fans, the media and even Love's teammates, including Mark Madsen.

About 30 minutes later Love sent another message to followers saying, "P.S. I am not a breaking news guy...I had no idea no one knew..I'll tell them I stayed at a holiday inn express last night. Always works...."

Kevin McHale, the team's former Vice President of Baseketball Operations, took over as the head coach for a second time in December of 2008 after being told he was no longer wanted in the front office.

McHale, who has had a rocky relationship with Timberwolves fans, joined the Wolves in 1994 and took over as the V.P. of Basketball Operations the next season.

New Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations, David Kahn, took over three weeks to make this decision saying he wanted to respect McHale and not make a knee-jerk reaction.

Possible replacements for McHale include former Timberwolf Sam Mitchell, Jeff Van Gundy and Avery Johnson.
