The body of missing Wisconsin soldier Russell Plummer has been found in a forest in Chippewa County. Plummer's body was found Tuesday afternoon in the Hay Meadow Flowage area of the Chippewa County Forest.
The Chippewa County sheriff's office says there are no signs of foul play, but Plummer's death is being considered a criminal investigation. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
Plummer’s body was found by deputies just a few miles from his mother's home in Cornell, Wis. after family members found his car on a path off a dirt trail where he often drove.
Plummer, 20, had returned home on Oct. 21 from a military training session in Maryland. His mother says he often stayed with friends while in the area, but after he missed National Guard duty she became concerned and reported him missing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Chippewa County sheriff's office at (715) 726-7701.
