Wetterling Investigation Shakes Community

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - It has been over 20 years since Jacob Wetterling went missing from his town, St. Joseph. The community is hoping that one of the leads will close the wounds for good.

Over the years, there have been numerous leads in the Wetterling case, but residents have never forgotten what happened.

“We thought it was in the past and it was unfortunate,” said St. Joseph resident Chris Jacobsen. “We didn’t know a whole lot about it – then it resurfaced and brings up some questions.

On Wednesday, investigators began to search the abduction site, where Wetterling was kidnapped in October of 1989. Investigators are not saying what they are searching for, but Wetterling’s father, Jerry, believes authorities want to start from the beginning of the case.

“It is all just so overwhelming,” said Jerry Wetterling.
