MINNEAPOLIS - A 1990 NCAA Elite 8 Championship Ring stolen from former Minnesota basketball player Walter Bond has been returned.
The ring was stolen from Bond in 1991 from his apartment near the University of Minnesota. Ramsey County sheriff’s deputies recovered the ring during the execution of a search warrant earlier this month and Sheriff Bob Fletcher returned it to Bond.
Investigators took note of the ring during due to its uniqueness. The gold team ring had the University of Minnesota "M" logo in the center, surrounded by maroon stone. The name “BOND” was engraved on the side and initials were engraved on the inside of the ring.
The ring was reported stolen to Minneapolis police in February of 1991.
Walter Bond played guard for the Gophers in the late 80s early 90s. In 1990, Minnesota was made it to the round of 8.
Bond currently works as a motivational speaker, with appearances around the country. After his college career, Bond played in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz, and Detroit Pistons.
