MINNEAPOLIS - Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was among the fans who attended the opening day at Target Field on Monday. He thinks the response to the Twins stadium will help the Vikings get a new stadium as well.
"It’s great to be at the new Twins ballpark, said Wilf. “What a beautiful home they have here."
Wilf took in the home opener and got a close look at how fans responded to something the Vikings covet: a new stadium.
"After being out here and enjoying the baseball, it's going to be a great boost for football as well."
The decision will be made at the capitol, where the team is seeking about $40 million a year in public money.
Senator Tom Bakk says there are talks about a possible user fee to help pay for a new stadium, which would add a tax on tickets, souvenirs and concessions.
If a deal does not get done in the next two years, Bakk thinks it's entirely possible the team leaves Minnesota.
"It happened with the Lakers and with the North Stars and I suppose it could happen with the Vikings as well," said Bakk.
There is also still talk about generating money through slot machines at Canterbury racino.
