MINNEAPOLIS - A storm that spanned parts of eight states continued to dump heavy snow in Minnesota Saturday collapsed the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Vikings-Giants game is rescheduled for Monday night Ford Field in Detroit. The game will be televised on FOX 9 at 6:20 CT p.m. Monday.
Stadium Failure
Snow removal workers were clearing snow from the dome roof overnight, but needed to be called down late Saturday night due to safety concerns.
The roof deflated due to snow accumulation around 5 a.m. Sunday. Crews found at least three Teflon roof panels that had sustained some damage.

Emergency repair crews and experts are coming to Minneapolis from various locations around the U.S, but the earliest time an expert will be available to evaluate the Metrodome is Monday afternoon.
Vikings vs Giants, 6:20 p.m. CT on FOX (from Detroit)
The Vikings-Giants game on Monday will be broadcast in all Minnesota markets and will also be available to Sunday Ticket subscribers on DirecTV.
Ticket Information
Any ticket holders for the original Giants-Vikings game will be admitted and given preferred seating along the 50-yard line. Free general admission tickets to the game will be available at the Ford Field box office beginning at 8:00 a.m. CST.
The possibility of an open-air night game at TCF Bank stadium was considered, but the Giants did not travel with winter weather gear to play in, reported FOX 9 News Director Bill Dallman. TCF Bank Stadium was essentially shut down for the winter. It would need up to five days to be prepared for a game.
Statements from Minnesota Vikings
"As you can imagine there are many complexities in moving a game, not only for the Minnesota Vikings but also for the New York Giants as well as Ford Field and their operations. The Vikings are grateful to the NFL, the Detroit Lions and Fox for their quick actions in resolving tomorrow night’s game. Our organization has been solely focused on ensuring as smooth a transition as possible for our football team and our fans. We will not begin to delve into the economic ramifications until we have taken care of the more pressing needs of our fans, our business partners and our football team." -Steve LaCroix, VP of Sales/Marketing, CMO
"The Vikings main concern is the safety of our fans and those working within the Metrodome -- fortunately there were no injuries when the roof collapsed. It is not appropriate to discuss the new stadium issue today. Those conversations will occur in due time." -Lester Bagley, VP Public Affairs, Stadium Development
Sun Country Airlines Charters Sell Out
The $250* package is for sale through Sun Country Reservations at 1-800-359-6786.
Sun Country Airlines scheduled a special charter flight for the Vikings-Giants game at Ford Field in Detroit. By Sunday evening, Sun Country had sold out two planes to Detroit in just four hours. They are now adding a third charter plane.
Giant Travel Delay
The Giants were stuck Saturday night in Kansas City, Mo. , after their flight was diverted there with the Twin Cities airport closed because of the snowstorm.
Heavy snows have caused a puncture in the roof and caused it to deflate three times in the past. Varying air pressure due to a severe storm once contributed to a dramatic deflation during a regular season Twins baseball game. On Nov. 19, 1981, a rapid accumulation of over a foot of snow caused the Metrodome roof to collapse, requiring it to be re-inflated.
An All-Time Snowfall
17.1 inches of snow were recorded in the Twin Cities metro on Dec. 9 and 10 -- the 5th highest all-time snowfall for Minneapolis. A few suburbs, including Shakopee and Oakdale, recorded 21 or more inches.
