HASTINGS, Minn. - FOX 9 has learned the top administrator and the director of nursing at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings are on paid administrative leave while the state Department of Veterans Affairs investigates allegations of retaliation against patients.
Problems at the Veterans Home in Hastings were first revealed this summer by a survey conducted by the Inspector General for Veterans Affairs. That investigation was initiated by a complaint to Senator Al Franken’s office.
The Inspector General’s investigation found nearly half the residents surveyed believed they would be retaliated against if they complained to the nursing staff. It also found the medical director had a poor bedside manner. That medical director has since been removed.
The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings provides services to more than 200 veterans including residential living as well as help with chemical addiction and mental health services.
