Minn. Transit Gets Boost From Stimulus Money

Published : Thursday, 09 Jul 2009, 10:22 PM CDT

Officials say federal stimulus funds will provide more than $60 million to transit improvements in Minnesota.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in Washington Thursday that the money includes about $50 million for the Metropolitan Council, Minneapolis-St. Paul Region, to pay for hybrid electric buses, biodiesel capable buses and other vehicles.

The money also includes $7.4 million for the state Transportation Department to replace buses used by various transit authorities; $2.5 million for facility construction for Trailblazer Transit serving McLeod and Sibley counties; and $255,000 for remodeling at Austin-Mower County Transit.
