Nurse-in for Breastfeeding in Public

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - A Maplewood woman claims she was asked to leave Old Country Buffet after starting to breastfeed her child, while customers were watching. More moms are joining her to send a message to that business.

Outside the Old Country Buffet in Maplewood, more than a dozen people joined Beth Morton in a show of solidarity for women who breastfeed.

“We’re showing this is what breastfeeding is,” said Morton. “Its clearing up the misconceptions that woman take their whole shirts off and show everything.”

On April 4, Morton says an employee at the restaurant asked her to cover up while breast feeding. After an alleged heated argument, Morton says they were asked to leave.

Morton’s friend Deanna Parriott organized the nurse-out. She sent the invitation out on a Facebook page she set up called Boycott Old Country Buffet.

In the end, all Morton really wants is a public apology.

“Sometimes people make mistakes. If they would have stepped up and said ‘we screwed up,’ we wouldn’t have had to go this far. I’m not looking for attention.”
