Both the Minnesota National Guard and Wisconsin National Guard confirmed Thursday they have no troops currently training at the Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, Texas.
Seven people are dead and at least 30 are wounded in a mass shooting on the Fort property . A graduation ceremony was taking place at the base when the shooting happened Thursday afternoon.
The shooter, a soldier, was killed and two other soldiers considered suspects have been taken into custody.
Public affairs officials with the Minnesota Guard believe the 151th Field Artillery, based in Montevideo, has left. Those troops were training at Ft. Hood before their recent deployment to Iraq.
"It would be an environment that would be very susceptible to casualties or injuries," Killeen City Manager Connie Green said.
Army personnel say they are not certain whether the shooting victims are civilians or military personnel.
The conditions of the wounded were not known. Army officials said in a press briefing Thursday afternoon the 12 killed all died at the scene of the shooting. One of the shooting victims was a police officer.
The official base Web site has posted a message that it is on lock down and in an emergency situation. It also urged people to stay indoors.
