New Brighton National Night Out 1st Place City

The city of New Brighton has been recognized as the first place community for participation in National Night Out for cities with a population of 15,000 to 49,999. This is the second first place for the city in the last 5 years.

The National Association of Town Watch selected New Brighton over 329 other United States communities that submitted post-project reports detailing their involvement in NNO.

New Brighton has placed in the top ten for ten consecutive years, and in the top 25 for the past 15 years.

A total of 140 parties were registered in New Brighton.

The theme for 2009 was National Night Out Goes Green. The city implemented online strategies and utilized social networking sites to communicate about "America's Night Out Against Crime."

An award will be formally presented to the mayor and City Council at a future meeting.
