Bloomington, Minn. - With this typical Minnesota winter of plenty of snow and cold, you may be dreaming about spring and getting back outdoors. For many of us, getting out there means hitting the road on two wheels. But for a couple of Twin Cities inventors, it's all about four wheels-- or more.
Theirs is a business success story during this recession.
Minnesotans love their bikes. That's a good thing, because aerospace engineer Jim Black and idea man Jon Nygren love to move people and literally bring them together with their "side-by-side bikes."
They don't make the bikes at their Bloominton "idea incubator," they make the kits that join the more relaxed recumbent bikes. They've been doing it since receiving a patent in 2003.
They've weathered this economic downturn not only because people are looking for new ways to spend less on gasoline, but because they make a product that allows the young, the old, the four-legged, and those who have special needs to ride around town or across country safely and comfortably-- for around $25-hundred dollars.
With ideas and inventions that keep adapting to changing needs, times and conditions, their business will likely continue to grow - as much as they allow it.
