EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (FOX 9) - Minneapolis is considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the country, with good reason. Now one the cities largest roofs has gone green.
Target Center's 2.5 acre roof is now the largest green roof in the State, the fifth largest in the entire country and tenth largest in the world. Designed by local landscape architect Peter MacDonagh this green roof will provide benefits that extend well beyond the dollar savings on heating and cooling of the Target Center.
It is already helping water quality of the Mississippi River. It's estimated the green roof will capture one million gallons of storm water annually, preventing runoff into the Mississippi. During construction much of the old roof was recycled.
It's a green space not many of us will have the chance to visit, but we will all benefit from this green roof!
