Pawlenty to Talk Business in Mexico

Published : Thursday, 29 Oct 2009, 10:18 AM CDT

Governor Tim Pawlenty has announced a trip to Mexico in November to meet with President Felipe Calderon on business opportunities.

Pawlenty leaves for Mexico on Sunday, Nov. 8. The trip is said to be an effort to help Minnesota-based companies increase exports to Mexico, build strategic relationships and explore new business opportunities.

“Over the past ten years, Mexico grew from Minnesota’s 13th largest export market to 6th largest,” Pawlenty said. “By sharing Minnesota’s successes with business and political leaders in Mexico, we hope to expand an already strong relationship.”

Pawlenty will meet with Calderon on Nov. 9 and return to Minnesota on Nov. 10. He says the trip will also include a reception with Minnesota and Mexican business leaders.

The trip was arranged at the request of the Mexican government with the assistance of the Mexican Consulate in St. Paul. Pawlenty says he'll be traveling as part of a small group at state expense.
