MINNEAPOLIS - Investigators suspect there are more victims of alleged sexual abuse by former Minneapolis Park Police Capt. William A. Jacobs, prompting the Hennepin County sheriff's office to issue a call for victims to come forward.
The sheriff's office released photos of Jacobs, 66, of Deephaven, Minn., dating back to 1965, with information for additional victims to call a 24-hour phone line.
Jacobs is charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct for the alleged sexual abuse of a boy on several weekend trips from 2007 through 2009.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 17 the boy told his mother Jacobs had been sexually abusing him since her was 12-years-old. The boy said he went on a camping trip with Jacobs in the summer of 2007, during which he woke up in the middle of the night to Jacobs touching him inappropriately.
In the fall of 2007, the boy said he took more trips with Jacobs. The pair would spend the day together doing an activity, then watch a movie at night. The boy said Jacobs showed him pornography on his computer, bring him into his bedroom and sexually abuse him.
The boy estimated roughly 28 episodes of sexual abuse between the fall of 2007 and spring of 2008. The sexual abuse allegedly escalated in the summer of 2008 and spring of 2009 on more trips.
“The charges are disturbing especially since this is an individual who was trusted by so many,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, following the original charges. “If people have information relevant to this case, I urge them to contact the sheriff’s office.”
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of sexual assault by Jacobs, or the parents of a possible victim, are asked to call the Hennepin County sheriff's office at 763-525-6216. The phone line will be answered 24 hours a day and calls will be returned immediately by a detective.
