MAPLEWOOD, Minn. - A 21-month-old boy was run over by his dad's car and killed while playing in the driveway of their Maplewood home on Sunday.

According to Maplewood police, the boy was playing in the driveway with his 8-year-old brother around 12:17 p.m. when he was hit by the car. Paramedics rushed to the home on the 2500 block of Nemitz Avenue and took the boy to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he was pronounced dead.

The boy was identified Monday as Josiah James Roeske Carlson.

The boy's 40-year-old father was the only person in the car. At this time, Maplewood police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The case remains under investigation by Maplewood police and the Minnesota State Patrol.

A family friend will be issuing a statement on the death at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
