Favre Boo'd, But Beats Packers at Lambeau

Favre on win over Packers: 'It was pretty special'

Published : Sunday, 01 Nov 2009, 3:29 PM CST

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Brett Favre stepped onto the field for his first series at the 11:37 mark in the first quarter to mostly boos from the Green Bay Packers faithful. But in the end, Favre's return to Lambeau was a victorious one. The 40-year-old quarterback threw three touchdown passes, leading the Vikings to a 38-26 win and 7-1 record on the year.

"It was emotional," Favre told FOX Sports' Pam Oliver. "Lot of years here. Lot of great years. It was pretty special."

Before the game

Favre emerged from the tunnel at Lambeau Field to overwhelming boos Sunday afternoon in Green Bay. The game marked Favre's first as an opponent of the Packers and his first as an opposing quarterback at Lambeau Field.

"I hope they love me as much as I love them," Favre said after the game. "The 16 years I spent here, I gave my heart."

Favre's first pass of the game was a three-yard completion to rookie Percy Harvin, followed by a 20-yard pass to Chester Taylor for a Vikings first down. That opening drive ended with a punt into the Packers' endzone.

Fumble on Favre's second drive

On his second drive of the game, Favre and Vikings center John Sullivan had a miscommunication which led to a fumble, recovered by the Packers at the Vikings 21 yard line.

Favre appeared to be calling an audible or make a protection call out of the shotgun formation when Sullivan snapped the ball.

The Packers took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a Mason Crosby field goal following the fumble.

Points on the board

Percy Harvin returned the ensuing kickoff 76 yards to start a drive that ended with an Adrian Peterson touchdown on 4th and 1 from the one yard line, putting the Vikings up 7-3.

Early in the second quarter, Favre threw his first touchdown pass of the game, finding tight end Visanthe Shiancoe in the endzone for a 14-3 Vikings lead.

Victory doesn't come easy

A pair of touchdowns by Green Bay tight end Spencer Havner pulled the Packers to within four points of the Vikings, at 24-20, heading into the fourth quarter.

But the Vikings answered and added some insurance with Favre's third touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter. Favre connected with tight end Jeff Dugan from two yards out to stretch the lead to 31-20 at the 13:29 mark.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers responded with a quick, three-minute drive ending in a Greg Jennings touchdown. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy decided to go for two points to pull Green Bay within a field goal, but the conversion failed.

Notes

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers fumbled in the backfield on 2nd and 10 in the team's first drive.

During a Packers drive late in the fourth quarter, Greg Jennings injured himself attempting to catch a pass near the Vikings sideline. Favre was standing in the area of the incompletion and crouched down to check up on Jennings as team trainers came to his aid.

Can't get enough Favre? FOX Sports had a camera fixed on Brett Favre for Sunday's entire game.
