BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. - A Brooklyn Center postal worker is getting some big kudos for helping to save a lost little boy while he was out on his route last September.
The postmaster general sent Ron Peterson a glowing letter for his efforts, which helped a kindergartener who did not speak English find his way home after getting off at the wrong school bus stop.
Peterson found the boy's address and phone number on his backpack, dialed the number and helped the boy's ecstatic mother find her son.
Peterson says he has always wanted to be a mail man.
"I love my work," he said. "Proud to work at this station, proud to work with a bunch of great people, proud to be a carrier."
Peterson has a knack for being at the right place at the right time. More than a year ago, he smelled gas while delivering mail and called it in. No one had been home, and the entire house had filled with gas. With just one small spark, the home could have exploded.
