ST. PAUL, Minn. - More than 400 high school students toured six Twin Cities metro colleges this week as part of Admission Possible.

The high school juniors are getting the chance to feel real campus life at St. Thomas University. The students have been preparing for college with the help of AmeriCorps volunteers for a couple of years now.

Leaders say the college campus tour is one of the most important steps because kids get to learn more than just what they read on a website and in a brochure.

They can ask other college kids questions, talk to future professors, and get comfortable with the size and feel of campus.

Students say they realize they have opportunities they might not have had before.

"I'm glad I signed up for Admission Possible because it helps a lot," Desare Cox said. "You study for the ACT to help get better and achieve the high goals you set for yourself."

Students are able to tour 30 in-state and Upper Midwest colleges. Next fall, the students focus on getting into their top five schools.

Admission Possible is now helping more than 1,500 low-income students in several metro high schools. Since it began in 2000, 98 percent of the students they've helped have been admitted to college.
