MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota's Attorney General announced a new lawsuit about several senior citizens being scammed door to door.
According to the Attorney General, these are many cases of very pushy sales people on the phone or at the front door taking advantage of the kindness of seniors, and then running a scam.
Attorney General Lori Swanson announced Tuesday two lawsuits. The first lawsuit was filed against Amp Alarm of Orem, Utah, which sells home security alarms. The other suit is against EMT Medical of Tempe, Arizona, which sells emergency medical safety products.
The suits allege the companies misrepresented themselves, their products or falsely told seniors new laws required them to buy certain products, selling either over the phone or in person and all in a very aggressive fashion.
Victims say salespeople would simply not leave them alone.
Tips from the Attorney General’s Office:
• Don't be swayed by unknown callers trying to scare you...
• Read the fine print...
• Hang up the phone or shut the door
• Know your rights, and that means these salespeople have to clearly identify who they are, their business, their intent and many other details you are fully entitled to ask about.
