BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Mice are a homeowner’s nightmare. According to Scott Dorn and others in the pest control industry this season, there are more and more of them invading metro area homes.
"I’ve literally seen hundreds in a home where they were coming out of the walls, running between my legs," said Dorn. "Mice will actually urinate one droplet approximately every 18 inches."
His assignment is to find and fill the tiniest holes in the lower foundation. It turns out mice don't need much to sneak in for shelter. By the back exterior stairwell, Dorn found what he believes is a well worn entry way for the dirty little critters.
"You can actually see the area they've come and gone so many times that grease from their fur and urine create a black rub mark."
After clogging the hole with copper mesh and silicone, Dorn will focus on killing the mice that have likely nested inside.
His tools are a snap trap and something sweet. It's a recipe Dorn is getting an awful lot of practice with lately most likely because of favorable weather conditions for the mice to gather food and reproduce.
