North Memorial Health Care announced Monday the organization is reducing its workforce in response to lower patient volumes and a weak economy that is negatively impacting the organization.
Through the first quarter of 2009, North Memorial says inpatient volumes were six percent below budget, resulting in a workforce reduction that will impact approximately 170 staff through a combination of reduced hours and layoffs.
In total, approximately 100 positions will be eliminated.
In addition to declining patient volumes, North Memorial says they have experienced a 22 percent increase in uncompensated care compared to this time last year.
