MINNEAPOLIS - A task force is proposing some sweeping changes in regards to parking near the University of Minnesota.
The area includes several neighborhoods near campus.
The University District Partnership Alliance Zoning and Planning Regulatory Review Task Force held a public meeting on Monday.
The purpose of the meeting was to present recommendations of a community task force to change ordinances, regulations, and activities impacting livability in the University District, which includes the neighborhoods of Marcy-Holmes, Prospect Park, Southeast Como, University neighborhood, and West Bank/Cedar-Riverside.
One of the most controversial amendments is to require a half parking space for every bedroom, instead of the current one space per unit.
This is just one measure to eliminate the gridlock parking that currently happens, and will only get worse with a new football stadium.
Meetings will continue throughout the summer to come up with a solution.
