The Lions Club International is in Minneapolis, throwing the biggest convention of the year for the Twin Cities.
They put on quite a spectacle on Tuesday, with a parade with 10,000 people marching up Nicollet Mall.
The parade looked just like the parade of nations at the Olympics, except they're not in Minneapolis to compete; they're here to plan how they will serve the world during the next year.
They’re the people of the world who make big noises for the little people who cannot. Walt Hays is one of them. He’s a retired Methodist minister from Alaska who saves souls with his words.
“This little cart has been designed purposely to assist those persons who lack mobility because of polio, birth defects, land mind injury, leprosy or war amputation,” said Hays.
They’re called PETs, for personal energy transportation. 17,000 of those hand carts are helping mobility victims in third world courtiers. People who’ve received PETs use them to sell food, some use them as a shoe shine cart, they use them to transport goods to market, they use them to sell lottery tickets and they use them to support themselves.
