Reports of swimmer's itch have closed the beach at Washington County’s Big Marine Park Reserve. The beach will be closed June 30 through July 1 for treatment.
The county says lifeguards will be on duty and the beach will be open prior to the June 30 closing date. The beach will reopen Thursday, July 2.
About 30 to 40 percent of people are sensitive to swimmers itch. To avoid getting swimmers itch, it is recommended to shower and completely dry off with a towel shortly after exiting the water.
Other Washington County swimming beaches will remain open during the treatment at Big Marine Park, including the Square Lake Park beach in nearby Stillwater.
More information is available by calling the Big Marine Park Reserve at 651-430-8200.
