MINNEAPOLIS - Tuesday's sunshine had lots of people thinking spring. But the melting it's doing could mean trouble for lots of homeowners. We've been warning you about ice dams, now is the time to fix them.

Homeowners across the metro are finding the ice build up is leading to some costly repairs because of leaks in walls and ceilings.

Jon Bartelt was working out of his Edina home Tuesday morning, when he heard that dreaded sound in his front living room. Bartlet, like so many others around the metro, found himself dealing with the impact of an ice dam on his roof.

With the inconsistent weather, homeowners are scrambling to remove ice from their homes.
In St. Louis Park, Marc Carden used the warmer evening temperatures to pull snow off his roof.
With such thick ice having formed on the ledge, the water from the melt has no where to go but down into the house.

Carden used a roof-melt which is a hockey puck looking block of salt that is selling out of hardware stores everywhere. The pucks are suppose to be thrown or placed on roof-top snow and ice to help melt away damns and make sure the water stays out of the home.
