SHAKOPEE, Minn. - All the rain is increasing flooding fears across Minnesota and even the metro area. Fourteen counties are in a flood warning as the Minnesota River rises.
In 20 years sitting right on the Minnesota River, Dangerfield’s Restaurant owner Gus Khwine has become a pretty decent amateur hydrologist. He's worked through three floods in 1993, 1997 and 2001. When the river got to the top of the two by four used as a measuring stick and as the waters rose higher than the basement, he flooded it himself with clean, chlorinated water.
And with the way things look all the current rain, speeding up the snow melt, the ground too frozen to soak anything in, he's ready to strip out all the wood and the mechanicals and flood it again.
"We have put all contractors on notice,” said Khwine. “They came today after all the rain we've seen to put a game plan just in case it is needed."
The way things look, especially with the rain, there's little question there will be flooding along the Minnesota River.
Scott County is planning for flooding in Jordan, Shakopee and Savage.
