Two people were killed in a crash in Forest Lake late Sunday morning.
The crash took place around 11 a.m. at I-35 and Highway 8 in Washington County, said the Minnesota State Patrol.
Multiple air and ground ambulances were called to the scene, halting traffic.
State Patrol Captain Matt Langer said, “they’re always tragic when you have a fatal, but especially when it involves young children. It’s difficult and they are all preventable.”
According to the state patrol, 19-year-old Eric Sprouse driver of the Chevy pickup lost control heading north on Interstate 35. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by helicopter to a metro area trauma center.
The other passenger was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Hospital
The crash happened on a stretch of interstate in Forest Lake that lacks a physical safety barrier in the median that is designed to prevent cross-over crashes. The high-strength cables are becoming more common place around the Metro.
Two passengers, including a child in the southbound vehicle were killed at the scene. One person in the pickup truck was seriously injured and airlifted to North Memorial Hospital, while the second occupant of the pickup was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
The identities of the deceased have not been released.
