The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is likely to approve a near 3 percent tuition increase in a budget vote this week.
MNSCU's Board of Trustees meets for workshop sessions Tuesday to discuss the budget among other subjects, then submiot the final vote Wednesday.
Chancellor James H. McCormick recommends a budget in which students would pay an average $4,200 in tuition, or 2.8 percent more than 2009.
Students at the seven state universities would pay an average tuition of $5,800, a 3 percent increase.
In order to meet that budget, 550 jobs are expected to be unfilled or eliminated by the end of the next fiscal year.
