SHOOKS COUNTY, Minn. - The common-law wife of a Shooks Township man killed by a gunshot wound to the head was arrested Thursday.
The man was shot in the head before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Betsy Marie Hanks, 25, called 911
On Tuesday Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to the couple's residence to find Matthew David Albert, 27, shot in the head.
Albert was alive but unconscious and transported by ambulance to a landing site and transferred to the North Memorial Air Ambulance for transport to North Memorial Hospital. Albert never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead Thursday. His body was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
Hanks was taken into custody by Investigators and BCA Agents. The missing handgun was recovered by officers in Mizpah, MN, who were led to the gun by Hanks.
Hanks is being held at Beltrami County Jail. Reports will be forwarded to the Beltrami County Attorney for review regarding potential murder charges.
