Man Killed by Officer in St. Louis Park

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. - An off-duty police officer fatally shot and killed a suspect during an incident this morning at Salem Avenue and Minnetonka Boulevard in St. Louis Park around 2:30 a.m.

The officer was reportedly treated for injuries at a local hospital.

The Hennepin County Sheriff says Officer John Herman had just finished a shift and noticed a truck with multiple occupants driving erratically on Minnetonka just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

He pulled over the vehicle to investigate. A fight ensued, and that's when the officer apparently used deadly force. It is unclear if Jason Martin, 29, was the driver or a passenger. The other person in the vehicle was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Martin died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Minnetonka Boulevard remains closed between Toledo and Raleigh in St. Louis Park. It'll be closed for several hours while police investigate the scene.

Officer Hermanhas been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
